Recruiters at ERE Expo Say Competition for Top Candidates and Retention Are Biggest Challenges

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - October 25, 2007) - More than 500 recruiters recently convened in Washington, D.C., for the 2007 Fall ERE Expo. Recruiting leaders from George Mason University, MITRE Corporation, CPS Personal Services, Qualcomm, among others, and MBA candidates from American and Georgetown Universities, talked about competition for top candidates and retention and offered suggestions for combating these challenges.

"In today's corporate environment -- with economic issues looming and an aging workforce, companies are looking to their recruiters to employ the best practices to acquire and retain top talent," said Todd Raphael, editor-in-chief of ERE Media.

Recruiting Tips to Compete for Candidates

1. Give recruits personal attention including responding to emails
     and inquiries.
2. Identify unique, special efforts for the top candidates. If you want
     stars, treat them like stars.
3. Introduce candidates to decision makers to show recruits dedication to
finding the right person for the job.
4. Make sure recruiters know what the day-to-day job entails and they
     can articulate it.
5. Provide candidates an opportunity to demonstrate their skills -- from
     a sales presentation to writing a mini-proposal.

How to Retain The Candidates You Recruit

1. Deliver to employees what you promise to recruits.
2. Improve the orientation experience so it is more than administrative.
3. Align corporate and employee branding for a consistent message.
4. Continue to recruit your employees every day. The sales process
doesn't end once the candidate turns into an employee.
5. Show employees the internal career opportunities, so they
     don't seek them elsewhere.
