ST. LOUIS, MO--(Marketwire - November 9, 2007) - The members of the Board for the Higher
Education Loan Authority of the State of Missouri (MOHELA) have approved a
Code of Conduct to guide the Missouri-based student loan organization in
its relationships with colleges and universities and the student loan
borrowers served by MOHELA. The Code of Conduct will take effect
immediately and is available for public review at www.mohela.com.
Dr. John Smith, Chair of the MOHELA Board, said that many student loan
organizations across the country and many educational institutions were
adopting similar codes of conduct. The new Code is one of several
initiatives aimed at accountability and transparency that Dr. Smith and the
Board have undertaken since they were appointed to the MOHELA Board. "The
Board takes the public trust instilled in MOHELA very seriously. MOHELA is
committed to the highest standards of integrity and dedication to public
service. The new Code of Conduct reinforces that commitment," Dr. Smith
said.
Raymond H. Bayer, Jr., Executive Director and CEO for MOHELA, said that
MOHELA welcomes the clarification and instruction that the Code of Conduct
provides, noting that "Our school customers expect MOHELA to treat them and
the families we serve with the highest levels of respect and integrity.
This Code further clarifies and reaffirms MOHELA's standing within the
student loan community as an organization that offers the highest levels of
customer service and ethical behavior. MOHELA treats its customers with
the dignity and respect they deserve."
MOHELA is one of the largest student loan companies participating in the
nonprofit secondary market sector in America and is a leading holder and
servicer of student loans with more than $5 billion in assets and loan
purchase activity in excess of $1.66 billion per year. MOHELA advances its
benevolent mission of eliminating barriers for students so they can access
higher education through local, regional and national partnerships with a
variety of educational and financial institutions.
