no 77/07 Nord Pool launches German and Dutch power derivative contracts

Nord Pool, Europe's leading international commodity exchange for power and emissions, launches power derivatives for the German and Dutch market from 11 January 2008.

Lysaker, 28 November 2007
In order to enhance the product range and enable customers in meeting their total trading and hedging needs in several markets, Nord Pool launches peak and base derivative contracts for the German market and power base derivative contracts for the Dutch market from 11 January 2008. Dutch peak contracts will be launched given a sufficient demand from the market.

The new trading opportunities will include contracts for weeks, months, quarters and years in the respective markets. The time horizon for the contracts listed will be four weeks, three months, three quarters and two years. All contracts will be cash settled as forwards with the exception of weeks which will be settled as futures. These instruments will have a ticker code that starts with the following prefix EDE for Germany and ENL for Holland.

Nord Pool will now offer customers cross margining between all markets cleared at Nord Pool, meaning one daily collateral call for all products and markets combined. By facilitating netting and cross margining, combined with a competitive fee level, Nord Pool supports the drive to make transactions costs as low as possible.

The German contracts will be settled against the Phelix system price at the EEX for base and peak products. The Dutch contracts will be settled against the APX system price for base products.
