Stockholm, Sweden - SRG (SRG SSR idée suisse), Switzerland's public broadcaster, has selected Net Insight's Nimbra platform for a media contribution network spanning four Swiss sites during the European Football Championship 2008.
SRG, Switzerland's public broadcaster has been a customer to Net Insight since 2006, when a national Nimbra-network was first ordered. SRG is now deploying a new media contribution network based on Net Insight's Nimbra platform. The network will connect SRG's main TV centre in Zürich, the training camp in Lugano, the media center in Feusisberg - also location of the Swiss national football team - and the outside production facilities in Basel.
The network is built for simultaneous transport of uncompressed video (SDI, 270 Mbps), Ethernet data and file transfer and audio signals. All network nodes and connections are fully redundant and the new network introduces the high capacity Nimbra 680 switch to SRG including the recently introduced eight-port HD/SD SDI module which allows for a wide variety of configurations and a mix of High Definition (HD) and Standard Definition (SD) content. The Nimbra equipment will be delivered in the first quarter 2008.
The Nimbra platform's ability to transport all types of voice, data and video services with guaranteed quality of service is a key feature for SRG, who will use the network for their coverage of the Swiss national team during the championships.
