Telstra Europe Selects Foundry's NetIron MLX Metro Routers for Its UK Network

SANTA CLARA, Calif. and LONDON, Feb. 6, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Foundry Networks(r), Inc. (Nasdaq:FDRY), a performance and total solutions leader for end-to-end switching and routing, today announced that award-winning NetIron(r) MLX metro routers have been deployed by Telstra Europe, the European arm of global business-to-business (B2B) communications services provider Telstra International, across its U.K. Internet Protocol (IP) network.

Telstra Europe provides a broad portfolio of data, voice, managed network and hosting solutions to more than 8,000 enterprise customers. Working with Foundry reseller, Matrix Communications, highly-resilient NetIron MLX metro routers have been installed throughout Telstra Europe's U.K. network points-of-presence (POPs).

In addition to providing wire-speed, low latency, and low jitter routing and switching for IPv4, IPv6, Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS), and MPLS virtual private network (VPN) services, the NetIron MLX Series help increase profitability for service providers by significantly lowering capital expenditures (CapEx) and operational expenditures (OpEx). Delivering industry-leading Ethernet port densities for facilitating rapid and scalable growth, the MLX Series is comprised of four form factors: 4-, 8-, 16- and 32-slot platforms delivering up to 3.2 terabits per second (Tbps) data capacity and approximately two billion packets per second (Bpps) of packet forwarding performance per system. The port density and capabilities of these routers offer service providers remarkable scalability, providing compelling investment protection for their growing networks.

Similarly, the NetIron MLX Series can provide carrier grade 'five-nines' availability, meaning a network operational 99.999 percent of the time. This equates to less than five minutes downtime a year.

All of Telstra Europe's Ethernet-based customers will be connected to the NetIron MLXs which, in turn, are linked to its core routers, with the majority of Telstra's POPs connected by 10 Gigabit per second fiber rings. Foundry's FastIron(r) SX Layer 2/3 switches have also been purchased for use in Telstra Europe's hosting centers for network management.

Telstra Europe's high performance IP-based converged network enables delivery of a range of cost-effective feature rich services for customers, such as voice, unified messaging, video conferencing with real-time file sharing, disaster recovery and business continuity.

Ken Cheng, Foundry's vice president and general manager, High-End and Service Provider Systems Business Unit, said, "Telstra International has been operating in Europe for more than 15 years and has established itself as a premier provider of communications services for enterprises. With a focus on being the expert communications service provider of choice for Asia Pacific, and a strong presence throughout Europe, we're delighted Telstra International recognized the value of our technology and chose us as a networking partner."
