BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire - March 5, 2008) - The AIIM International Exposition & Conference
and the ON DEMAND Conference & Exposition along with its exhibitors,
including activePDF, Inc., Bowe Bell + Howell, DataVault, DOXIM Inc.,
Eastman Kodak Company, Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc.,
SalesForce.com, XMPie, Inc. and Xerox Corporation today presented
state-of-the-art technology to Boston's Horace Mann School for the Deaf and
Hard of Hearing, the first school for the education of the deaf ever
incorporated into a public school system, at a 'Thank You' event with
officials from the City of Boston and the Horace Mann School. For the
second year in a row, the Horace Mann School for the Deaf and Hard of
Hearing will benefit from the generosity of exhibitors. Each year, Questex
Media Group, the producer of the AIIM International Exposition & Conference
and the ON DEMAND Conference & Expo, gives back to the local community by
participating in a local education-related charity. The donation program
is part of the conferences & expos taking place March 3-6, 2008 at the
Boston Convention & Exhibition Center.
Dr. Carol R. Johnson, Superintendent of the Boston Public Schools; James E.
Rooney, Executive Director, Massachusetts Convention Center Authority; and
Jeremiah Ford, Principal of the Horace Mann School, will be in attendance
to receive the donations from the exhibitors. Donations include software,
printing equipment and supplies. The donations are part of Questex's
commitment to education and desire to leave a lasting legacy to the City of
Boston.
"This partnership among Questex, exhibitors and the Horace Mann School has
been exciting and fruitful. Our exhibitors know that their technology
helps the students in their achievements both in school and beyond, the
Horace Mann School and the City of Boston recognize the financial benefit
of obtaining state-of-the-art hardware and software at little or no cost,
and Questex has the satisfaction of helping the community in which it does
business," said Kerry Gumas, President and Chief Executive Officer, Questex
Media Group, Inc. "We strongly believe that the future of education
depends heavily on the interface between corporate and private citizens,
especially with the exponential growth in technology we see every year. By
encouraging donations such as these, we hope to emphasize the concept of
global responsibility for students and for educational institutions."
"Education is about innovation and about providing students with the
technology that allows them to access the world," said Dr. Johnson. "This
is not technology for the sake of technology but rather the ability to
leverage the equipment, software and hardware available today to not only
enhance the learning of students but to allow them to begin working with
the very same materials and programs that they will employ in higher
learning and the working world. The Boston Public Schools is very grateful
to Questex Media Group and their wonderful exhibitors here at the AIIM
Conference and Expo and the ON DEMAND Conference and Expo."
Since its founding in 1867, the Horace Mann School has evolved and
expanded. The school now provides education and career training for 150
deaf and hard of hearing students from birth through age 22. Located in
Allston, MA, the Horace Mann School follows the Boston Public School
standards and curriculum frameworks and has an outstanding record of
achievement.
Students at the Horace Mann School learn real-world computer skills while
gaining valuable business and marketing skills. Through ScanWorks, a
student-run venture, students are given the opportunity to sharpen their
computer skills while experiencing first hand the challenges of operating a
successful business. Students learn how to operate high-tech scanning
equipment and work with sophisticated computer programs and develop other
business skills such as how to find and secure clients, how to develop
advertising that sells, and how to work effectively as a team. The
students are building a business from the ground up, preparing them to
become entrepreneurs or to find careers in the high-tech industry.
All Massachusetts schools offering a vocational technical education program
are required to have a Program Advisory Committee. For more than 25 years,
the AIIM New England Chapter has supported the Horace Mann School as a
business advisor and partner, providing both technological expertise and
funds. Students use computers in all of their courses and staff members are
harnessing the power of technology to enhance their curriculum.
