John T. Gill, MD, Elected Chair of Academy Board of Councilors

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - March 7, 2008) - Orthopaedic surgeon John T. Gill, MD, was
elected Chair of the Board of Councilors (BOC) of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons
(AAOS) at the organization's 75th Annual Meeting, held Mar. 5-9, 2008, at
Moscone Center in San Francisco. He will also serve on the Academy's Board
of Directors.
Specializing in sports medicine, Dr. Gill is currently an orthopaedic
surgeon in private practice at the Texas Institute for Surgery at
Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas. After earning a medical degree from the
University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, Dr. Gill served his
internship and residency at Parkland Memorial Hospital and Southwestern
Medical School in Dallas. He then completed a fellowship in sports
medicine and surgery of the knee at the Baylor College of Medicine in
Houston.

patients."
Active in numerous professional societies, Dr. Gill is currently president
of the Texas Orthopaedic Association and serves in the House of Delegates
for both the Texas Medical Association and the American Medical
Association. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic
Surgery and a former board member of the Dallas County Medical Society.
Dr. Gill has extensive experience in the political arena, having served in
leadership roles in congressional, gubernatorial and presidential
campaigns. In 2004, he was elected by his district to serve as a delegate
to the Republican National Convention in New York City. He is a member of
the AAOS Council on Advocacy and a frequent visitor to Washington, D.C., to
speak on important health-care issues. Since 2007, he has served as an
advisor to the Center for Health Transformation, also in Washington, D.C.
An active volunteer in his community, Dr. Gill serves on the Board of
Directors of the Dallas Summer Musicals and as chairman of the Texas
Healthcare Task Force. He is also a member of the Salesmanship Club of
Dallas, whose efforts benefits troubled and at-risk youth, and a team
physician for the Dallas Independent School District. Along with his wife,
Mary, he chaired the American Heart Association Gala of Dallas in 2006. He
is a father of four and enjoys photography and the occasional round of
golf.
