NASDAQ Announces End-of-month Open Short Interest Positions in NASDAQ Stocks as of Settlement Date March 31, 2008


NEW YORK, April 9, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- At the end of the settlement date of March 31, 2008, short interest in 2,688 NASDAQ Global Market(sm) securities totaled 9,480,978,979 shares compared with 9,595,273,811 shares in 2,694 Global Market issues reported for the prior settlement date of March 14, 2008. The end-of-March short interest represents 3.97 days average daily NASDAQ Global Market share volume for the reporting period, compared with 4.20 days for the prior reporting period.

Short interest in 501 securities on The NASDAQ Capital Market(sm) totaled 176,113,244 shares at the end of the settlement date of March 31, 2008, compared with 182,927,933 shares in 512 securities for the previous reporting period. This represents 4.49 days average daily volume, compared with the previous reporting period's figure of 4.54.

In summary, short interest in all 3,189 NASDAQ(r) securities totaled 9,657,092,223 shares at the end of the March 31, 2008 settlement date, compared with 3,206 issues and 9,778,201,744 shares at the end of the previous reporting period. This is 3.98 days average daily volume, compared with an average of 4.21 days for the previous reporting period.
