New Book Series for Girls, Work It!(R), Is Antidote for "Girls Gone Wild" Syndrome
Work It!(R) Book Collection Designed to Inspire Positive Future Career Choices in Time for "Take Your Daughters and Sons to Work Day"

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - April 23, 2008) - The role models for girls 7-14 years old
have fallen apart in the last 12 months. Britney Spears has been in the
hospital, Paris Hilton has been in jail, and Lindsey Lohan has been both IN
and OUT of rehab. The young women tween-aged girls look up to have gone
wild and they deserve a broader range of young women to emulate.
The Work It!® Book Collection (www.workitclub.com) was created to
encourage tweens to focus on positive role models, think BIG about their
own futures and take action. Work It!® is a fiction series for
7-14-year-olds about an internship program called the Work It Club in San
Francisco. The fictional program places its young teens in jobs shadowing
professional women to learn real details about the book's highlighted
occupation. The first book in this new series, Work It!® Veterinarian at
Seaside Zoo, published by Tate Publishing, is about two girls from the club
who get an internship with Dr. Lopez, a zoo vet. Work It!® Veterinarian
at Seaside Zoo launched to coincide with "Take Your Daughters and Sons To
Work Day" on April 24th, and is available at amazon.com and retailers
nationwide.
"I created this series because I started to notice my children and their
friends asking lots of questions about careers at a young age. I did a
year's worth of research which confirmed that developmentally, tweens are
very curious about the working world. There was nothing entertaining,
constructive and instructive to meet this need," said Andrea Fuller,
creator and CEO of Work It! Inc. "The Work It!® Book Collection is
designed to create excitement about the range of positive career options
available for girls as they get older, and move them to action to find out
more right now." At the back of the book are Action Notes™; a list of
web site resources, organizations and people the reader can use should she
want to find out more about the book's highlighted profession.
"Since we know that over 60% of women are currently in the workforce, it is
wonderful for girls to have engaging fiction with the purpose of
introducing a window into the world of work," said Dr. Mary Trigg, Director
of Leadership Programs and Research at the Rutgers University Institute for
Women's Leadership and Board Member of the Take Your Daughters and Sons To
Work Foundation.
Girls and their parents can vote on the next book in the series scheduled
to launch in late 2008 by going to the www.workitclub.com. Choices for the
next book include placing the characters in an internship with a chef, a
fashion designer, or a horse-jockey.
