What: Three of the 16 national winners in the Lexus Environmental Challenge will be honored at Lexus' headquarters. The three Los Angeles-based teams will tour the Toyota/Lexus "green" campus and then attend a recognition ceremony with Lexus executives and associates. Each team will receive $50,000 for their outstanding entries in the Challenge, a national education program designed by Lexus and Scholastic to educate and empower middle and high school students to take action to improve the environment. The schools will receive grants for $10,000, the teacher advisors will each get a $5,000 grant, and the students will share $35,000 in scholarships for each team, for a total of $150,000. These three winning projects tackled a variety of issues including proving the effectiveness of no-take zones in the preservation of marine life, raising awareness about air pollution, and educating people about the impact of global warming on wild polar bears.
