Three New Z-Wave Thermostats Turn Up the Heat on Home Energy Savings
The Z-Wave Alliance Marks the Second Anniversary of Its Advanced Energy Savings Thermostat Device Class

FREMONT, CA--(Marketwire - May 21, 2008) - The Z-Wave Alliance today celebrated the second
anniversary of its Advanced Energy Savings Thermostat Device Class with the
introduction of three new Z-Wave-enabled thermostats to the market from
Intermatic, Wayne-Dalton and RCS.
"Z-Wave has made significant inroads into home energy management by
reinforcing that true home energy conservation doesn't stop at the meter,
but rather requires the control of devices within the home," noted Mark
Walters, chairman of the Z-Wave Alliance. "As an example of this, Z-Wave
already dominates home lighting control with over 15 brands utilizing our
technology worldwide."
Thermostats, like lighting control, are another critical element to the
management of energy in the home. The Intermatic CA8900, Wayne Dalton
WDTC-20 and RCS TZ43 join the already strong family of fully interoperable
Z-Wave-enabled thermostats from ACT, Danfoss, RCS, Horstmann and HAI,
bringing the total count of available Z-Wave thermostats to 12. These
thermostats are fully Z-Wave compliant and interoperable with the more than
300 Z-Wave products already on the market, including lighting controls,
appliance and motor controls, door and window controls, window coverings,
pool pumps, motion, light and humidity sensors and A/V controls.
In April 2008, the Z-Wave Alliance announced a partnership with Modstroem,
an exciting growing Danish utility company, to bring consumers an
innovative smart metering application to reduce energy consumption. By
combining meter reading with control devices, Z-Wave empowers the user to
take charge of energy use and removes the feelings of frustration and
helplessness that can come from stand-alone meter-reading applications.
"We believe Z-Wave is a viable technology to link the smart meter to the
thermostat and to other in-home devices for utility provider demand
management programs," said Geoff Williamson, chief marketing officer at
Trilliant, a member of the Z-Wave Alliance. "Our network solutions enable
interval metering to support time of use rates for variable energy pricing,
but it's important to go beyond that and be able to adjust energy consuming
devices, most notably the home thermostat, during critical peak periods
when energy supply is strained. Z-Wave members are delivering products
today that support conservation and demand response programs for utilities
and their residential customers."
