RIDGEWOOD, N.J., July 23, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- China's largest bus manufacturer, Zhengzhou Yutong Bus Company, and Alcoa, the world's leading aluminum producer, have joined forces to come up with an environmentally-friendly bus prototype that will begin test runs during the Olympic Games.

The bodies of the two test buses are made primarily of aluminum and are 46 percent lighter than traditional buses. Overall, the new buses weigh nearly one and a half tons less than buses now on the road, requiring less fuel and emitting fewer greenhouse gases.

The buses use Alcoa's spaceframe technology that is used in the Ferrari 612 and all Gran Turismo Ferraris as well as the Audi A8. The European Commission and the European Patent Office awarded the Audi A8 the 2008 European Inventor of the Year Award.
