CyberShift Survey Shows Automating Time Entry and Eliminating Payroll Errors Remain Top Priorities for Most Companies
Most Employees Surveyed Still Record Time and Attendance Manually, Reinforcing the Need for Automated Systems
| Source: CyberShift
PARSIPPANY, NJ--(Marketwire - September 2, 2008) - A new survey by CyberShift and the American Payroll Association
(APA) on employee time entry management showed that maintaining accurate
time, attendance and payroll records remain top priorities for most
companies' payroll professionals. To coincide with National Payroll Week,
CyberShift, a leading provider of workforce and expense management software
and services, teamed up with the APA, the professional society for payroll
management, to obtain current data on a variety of payroll and workforce
management-related elements such as time and attendance, time entry,
absence management and automated workforce management.
A majority of those surveyed revealed they still use relatively antiquated
methods of recording time, such as manually recording employee hours on
paper-based forms or Excel spreadsheets, which can often result in errors.
Nearly 20 percent of those surveyed said they experienced errors in a
typical payroll cycle. A fifth said that they had between one and five
percent of paychecks in a cycle contain errors.
"These survey responses highlight the importance of
up-to-date workforce management practices and systems to improve business
processes and productivity for American businesses," said APA Executive
Director Dan Maddux. "This survey is especially noteworthy as we celebrate
National Payroll Week in that it reinforces the need to examine current
processes and identify where improvements can be made that enable payroll
professionals to successfully do their jobs and impact the bottom line of
an organization."
National Payroll Week celebrates the hard work by America's 156 million
wage earners and the payroll professionals who pay them. According to the
APA, through the payroll withholding system, wage earners and payroll
professionals contribute, collect, report and deposit approximately $1.7
trillion, or 64.2%, of the annual revenue of the U.S. Treasury.
CyberShift CEO, Robert Farina, said, "These results validate that many
companies have an opportunity to better manage their time and attendance
processes by adopting automated workforce software, eliminating human
errors and increasing staff productivity. CyberShift is proud to partner
with the APA as they celebrate National Payroll Week and recognize wage
earners and the hundreds of payroll professionals who work hard to
contribute to their individual organizations."
More than 1,500 payroll professionals from companies ranging in size from
less than 500 employees to more than 10,000 employees completed the
APA-CyberShift online survey which ran from June 3, 2008 through June 17,
2008. Administered by the APA, a diverse mix of payroll and financial
professionals such as treasurers, controllers, vice presidents, directors
and managers provided responses.
The APA conducts regular trendline surveys focused on industry trends,
products and processes that are designed to gauge the opinions and concerns
of payroll professionals. Response to the June 2008 APA-CyberShift survey
was one of the highest in two years, according to the APA.
