NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - October 14, 2008) - Redstar Entertainment, an independent music
label based in New York City, has just announced that The Singhs (formerly
known as Dragonfly) have launched their newest album, entitled
"Supersaturated." This release is the band's third album and is the first
to debut in the U.S. market. The album is now available for sale on
iTunes, Amazon, and CD Baby, among other online and retail outlets. A
single from the CD, "Daddy's All Gone," has also just been released and is
being promoted nationwide to the Adult Contemporary, AAA and college radio.
In sync with the launch, the Singhs are set to perform at the 105riv lounge
located in the elegant Hotel on Rivington (107 Rivington Street in
Manhattan) at 9:30 pm on Wednesday, October 15. The show is open to the
public with a $10.00 cover/admission at the door.
Originally assembled as Dragonfly in 2001 by lead singer/guitarist Miki
Singh and renowned Boston guitarist Peter Parcek, the group has been
together since 2001 and includes veteran keyboardist and DJ Brother Cleve
(The Del Fuegos, Combustible Edison), drummer Steve Scully (James Taylor,
Juliana Hatfield, Letters to Cleo), and bassist Marc Hickox (Peter Parcek,
Trio, Lucky Stereo). Previous releases include the double album "The Edge
of the World" (2001) and "Blind" (2003).
The primarily Boston-based band has arranged, recorded, and performed at
venues all over the world including Morocco, The Maldives, India, France,
The Netherlands, French West Indies, and the United States.
"Supersaturated" was primarily recorded in a home studio on St. Barthélemy
in the French West Indies, with final mixes and mastering done in Boston
and New York City. A three-year long writing and recording project, the
twelve new tracks span pop, rock and funk produced by platinum-disc winning
producer Ducky Carlisle, as well as guest producer Jeff Taylor, known for
his work with Prince, Janet Jackson, and many other major artists.
Bandleader, singer/guitarist Miki Singh was born in Stockholm, Sweden in
1963 and he is the son of diplomatic parents who traveled extensively
during his childhood. His father is from India and is a career diplomat as
well as an author, painter and photographer. His mother is also from a
diplomatic family from Indonesia.
Singh spent his early childhood living all over the world including Spain,
the former Soviet Union, South Vietnam, Colombia and Uganda. Singh spent
his high-school years at a boarding school in the Himalayas before going to
university at MIT in the United States. During those college years, Singh
began his relationship with music -- forming a band and devoting much of
his free time to writing music and performing around the city of Boston.
Singh curtailed much of his musical activity after graduating from MIT in
1986, as he launched and developed a highly successful company in the
software industry with one of his college band-mates. In 2001, after a
15-year hiatus from music, Singh left the high-tech world to re-devote his
efforts full-time to music, forming the group that is now The Singhs.
The Singhs have performed all over the world, including tours in India and
France, and shows in Amsterdam, London, Morocco, The Maldives, Boston and
New York. Most recently, The Singhs performed in July in clubs in Boston
and in New York and in June, the band opened for the Pakistani band,
Junoon, at a Peace Concert in Srinigar, the capital of Kashmir, an area
that has been in a near civil war state for the last 15 years.
