SANTA ANA, CA--(Marketwire - November 25, 2008) - Advanstar Communications, a leading provider
of integrated media solutions to the automotive aftermarket, off-road, and
powersports industries, announced today that the editorial team for
Off-Road.com posted nearly 250 LIVE updates from the 2008 Tecate SCORE Baja
1000. Providing industry-leading multimedia
coverage, Off-Road.com covered every aspect of the race, including
contingency, pre-running, pits, SCORE base and even rode along with some of
the biggest teams in the Baja 1000: Ford and Volkswagen.
Feature stories highlighting pre-race activities
began appearing on Off-Road.com in the weeks leading up to the 41st running
of the historic race. Coverage during the race included 244 live updates on team positions, racer progress, and
of course, the first vehicles in each class through checkpoints and across
the finish line. Adding "color commentary" for the site, editors Scott
Rousseau, Craig Perronne, and Josh Burns blogged throughout the two days of racing.
Fifteen audio
updates were phoned in and uploaded; 160 photos of the action, and 28 videos of the exciting
action rolled in during race hours.
Relying heavily on Weatherman reports and the official race tracking
devices required for each team, editors Dani Linthicum and Pattie Waters
provided continual updates and postings of team positions. From
the BF Goodrich\Volkswagen Media Center in Ensenada, Burns was able to add
continually to the postings as well. Taking advantage of a unique media
opportunity from Volkswagen, Rousseau added coverage of the race from the
course itself using the team's helicopter. Enthusiastic readers of
Off-Road.com also got into the action, posting their own team updates, and
uploading video and photos throughout the 30 hours of live coverage as
well.
Craig Perronne was also afforded an exclusive media opportunity as the only
online editor invited to ride along for a segment of the race with Ford's
Team Raptor. After his stint of 300 miles and 13 straight hours in the race
truck, Perronne was thrilled to join the factory team at the finish line as
the Raptor took third place in Class 8. In an audio clip phoned in at the finish line,
Perronne congratulated the Ford team: "The truck ran great, we had a lot of
fun, and we have officially finished the Baja 1000! The people at Ford are
ecstatic and they actually took third in Class 8 with a Stock Full
racetruck -- you can't be happier than that."
