The power situation in Norway as of 17 December

Lysaker, 17 December 2008

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):
High level of power production in Norway

The Norwegian power production was 3,443 GWh in week 50. This is the highest level for a week this year. Part of the increase from last week is due to higher consumption as a consequence of colder weather.

Low precipitation in combination with colder weather made for low inflow to the reservoirs. The total Norwegian inflow level was 0.7 TWh in week 50, witch is about 30 percent below normal. This, in addition to high production level, led to a drop of 3.3 percentage point in the Norwegian reservoir level. At the end of week 50, the reservoir level was at 72.6 percent. This is 3.2 percentage points below normal.

In this and coming reports, reservoir levels for the three previous elspot areas (NO1, NO2 and NO3) will be published. Weekly reservoir data for these areas, dating back to 2002, is available at request.

There will not be published any reports the coming two weeks. Next date for publication is 7 January 2009.
