The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania Launches New Wharton Aerospace & Defense Report

Online Knowledge Resource On the Aerospace & Defense Industry Announced At Sixth Annual Wharton Aerospace Conference in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 24, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania has launched a new online knowledge resource for leaders of the aerospace and defense industry: the Wharton Aerospace & Defense Report. The report, hosted on the Wharton Executive Education website, offers news, faculty and industry analysis, podcasts, and research reports.

The Wharton School announced the report's launch during the Sixth Annual Wharton Aerospace Conference on February 6, which attracted over 275 aerospace and defense industry leaders and experts to the Wharton campus in Philadelphia.

"Aerospace and defense is a vital industry, economically and strategically, and Wharton has a long-standing commitment to studying it and working with industry leaders," says Wharton Professor Morris Cohen, Co-Director of Wharton's Fishman-Davidson Center for Service and Operations Management. "The global industry is undergoing unprecedented changes, with consolidation, new regulations, and technology innovations. This aerospace and defense site will offer a source of current knowledge and information for industry leaders to use in meeting these challenges."

The content on the site includes a video of a recent lecture on leadership by Admiral Michael Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and an interview with Ken Krieg, Former Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics, on finding talent and opportunity. The site also features industry research reports and business knowledge from Wharton faculty. Professor Cohen, for example, an expert on global logistics, discusses how logistics planning could help to develop systems to respond more quickly to terrorist attacks, such as the one in Mumbai, India.

"This industry-specific website is a powerful knowledge source for aerospace and defense professionals, blending intellectual capital and insights from the industry," says Brian Jennings, senior director of the Manufacturing Practice at Wharton Executive Education. "The new initiative builds upon Wharton's extensive industry experience, which has enabled us to forge deep relationships with six of the world's top 10 aerospace and defense firms. We are creating a platform for a community of aerospace and defense leaders to use in sharing their perspectives on the industry."

The new Aerospace & Defense Report is the result of an ongoing collaboration between Wharton Executive Education and Knowledge@Wharton, Wharton's online research and analysis journal. To read the knowledge resource, go to the Wharton Aerospace Defense Report.
