Life Experiences of a Fifteen-year-old Boyhood Soldier is akin to a story of a modern day Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn who ran away from home at an early age and joined the U.S. Army at the height of the Korean War in 1952. It was always the author's dream to join the army and serve his country. When the chance finally came, he grabbed the chance and didn't think twice. He had to lie about his age because he was only fifteen. Fortunately, they were desperate for recruits and didn't question him further.

O'Dell found himself on the front line as machine gunner in Korea and participated in some of the last bloody battles "Pork Chop Old Baldy." He served his country for 3-year enlistment during cease-fire and was discharged as Sergeant in 1955 at the age of 18. The author left for the war as a boy and returned as a man.
