Pennypacker, members of the U.S. research team that created and validated standards for effective manual breast examination, today announced development of a new tactually accurate, personal breast model for women that teaches their fingers what to feel for while pacing the duration of each breast palpation. Advances in polymer chemistry led the team to develop an accurate, affordable breast model containing small, simulated tumors and normal breast lumpiness. A learning program on DVD teaches the difference between normal breast tissue and potentially harmful tumors, how to search the model thoroughly and then how to transfer that skill to the breast. The scientists produced the new tactile technology and learning program with grant support from the National Cancer Institute.
