- Today Cisco (
NASDAQ :CSCO ) announced activities planned for the National Cable & Telecommunications Association's (NCTA) "The Cable Show '09," including product demonstrations that highlight how Cisco is helping its cable service provider customers implement medianet technologies that will transform consumer video experiences for the Connected Life at Home. - Cisco will be demonstrating new technologies and solutions that will enable Internet Protocol (IP) networks to become the platform for a new generation of video and rich media applications and services. This new class of technologies is designed to enable advanced communications, collaboration and entertainment experiences through video- and rich media-optimized service provider, business, and home networks, known as "medianets."
- Cisco will be demonstrating high-definition whole home DVR and whole home video/media sharing virtualization, and portability using the tru2way software platform on Cisco's new next-generation tru2way set-tops at its Executive Suite #4137. Cisco's whole home video/media sharing, virtualization, and portability demonstration also will be on display in Broadband Nation, a "Main Street America"-themed technology showcase highlighting the advanced services and consumer benefits associated with cable's broadband telecommunications platform.

Medianet Technologies Including New Cisco Set-Tops Transform Consumer
Experiences for the Connected Life at Home
Cisco today announced that it is partnering with cable service providers to deliver the Connected Life at Home, by transforming their networks into medianets. A medianet infrastructure for cable can now be extended into the home with Cisco's next-generation set-top boxes. These next-generation set-top boxes provide traditional cable services while enabling a new generation of services powered by Internet Protocol (IP) technologies and open standards. The Cisco® Explorer® models, introduced at the Cable Show 2009, range from sophisticated high-definition DVRs providing whole-home video services to digital-only interactive set-top models. -

Cisco today announced the Connected Life Market Watch, a recurring primary research platform designed to identify market transitions and key inflection points in consumers' behavior and expectations. The study, conducted by Cisco's strategic global consulting arm, the Internet Business Solutions Group (IBSG), highlights U.S. consumer needs, attitudes, and behaviors about how and where they prefer to acquire services for the Connected Life, offering ubiquitous, personalized and seamless network experiences for subscribers at home, at work, and on the move.
