UAT Hosts Avnet Tech Games -- $50,000 in Student Scholarships to Be Awarded

TEMPE, AZ--(Marketwire - April 2, 2009) - The University of Advancing Technology (UAT) will host the 2009 Avnet Tech Games, an annual multidisciplinary technology competition open to all colleges, institutions, and universities in Arizona. The event, which takes place Saturday, April 4th from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at UAT's campus in Tempe, offers students the opportunity to apply what they learn in school to real-world technology scenarios. This year, teams of college students from Arizona schools will compete to win prizes and scholarships totaling $50,000.

The 2009 Avnet Tech Games will bring 300 students to UAT's Tempe campus to participate in nine competitions that will challenge their knowledge, creativity and technical skills. Students will be evaluated by a panel of judges, with first place student teams awarded $1,000 scholarships.

As an added attraction, competitors will also have the opportunity to network with industry leaders for potential internship and job opportunities. The day's events also include a trade show and career fair, concluding with the awards ceremony.

Competitive events for this year's games include the Accenture Tech Challenge, the AMD Build and Tune the Faster Computer, the Digital Design Challenge, Multimedia Fast Break and a Robot Race Obstacle Course.

Faculty members are also eligible for prizes -- honorariums of $200 per team will be awarded to participants on game day, with $300 awarded to each winning team.

The University of Advancing Technology is located at 2625 West Baseline Road in Tempe. This event is open to the public.
