Morristown Resident Wins First NAPFA Scholarship Nationally

Brinton Eaton's Scandlen Will Pursue Master's in Financial Planning

MADISON, NJ--(Marketwire - May 14, 2009) - Abigail M. Scandlen, of Morristown, an analyst with Brinton Eaton Wealth Advisors in Madison, was selected as the first recipient of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) scholarship to attend Bentley University.

She will begin her classes toward a master of science in financial planning at Bentley University's McCallum Graduate School of Business this fall, and the scholarship will cover half of her tuition. The distance-learning program will let Scandlen continue to work at Brinton Eaton, a financial planning, tax strategy and investment management firm.

NAPFA is the nation's leading organization dedicated to the advancement of fee-only comprehensive financial planning.

"Abby is an outstanding young professional and a key part of our future," said Brinton Eaton president Robert DiQuollo. "The knowledge she'll be gaining will make her even more valuable to our firm and our clients."

Bentley, in Waltham, Mass., is one of just a few institutions nationally offering a comprehensive master's degree program in financial planning.

"Abigail was a very strong candidate in terms of work experience, and she had an outstanding reference who spoke highly of her ability to succeed both academically and on the job," said Patrick Oroszko, assistant director of graduate admission at the McCallum Graduate School of Business. "We're definitely excited she's the first recipient from NAPFA." The NAPFA scholarship is a new annual competition.

Attending a rigorous part-time graduate program while working full-time shouldn't faze Scandlen, who was once a surface warfare officer in the United States Navy.

Scandlen, who specializes in financial planning and tax planning, is also pursuing her Certified Financial Planner™ designation.
