Hitchcock School Protects Data and IT Resources With Replay AppImage

RESTON, VA--(Marketwire - May 20, 2009) - The Hitchcock Independent School District educates over 1,200 students through 4 schools, a Head Start program, and special education services. Backup and recovery for the SQL databases that contain student, application, and financial data was a big worry until Chris implemented Replay AppImage, application assurance software from AppAssure. "I don't spend hours on tape backups and then worry about dirty tapes anymore," says Chris.

Replay AppImage takes snapshots of SQL databases, data, and associated applications every 15 minutes. "The backup might fail or there might be bad data on the backup. And since it took 9 hours to back up just the D: drives, we weren't backing up the C: drives. That meant that only data, and not applications, were backed up. If a server went down, we had to rebuild the whole thing."

Chris was also using shadow copy (VSS) to take snapshots of data. "That worked but we were limited to 2 snapshots per day because there's no compression. Space limits the number of snapshots you can take and how long you can keep them."
