TORONTO, June 24, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mondo, a global leader in the sports flooring market, is proud to be a presenting sponsor of the RunJumpThrow -- Right To Play demonstration at the Canadian Track and Field Championships this week at the University of Toronto.
The demonstration will begin at 11 a.m. on June 26 at Varsity Centre on the university's campus. Forty children and their parents will have the opportunity to interact with national team athletes, learn about Right To Play initiatives and participate in athletic activities.
Run Jump Throw is Athletics Canada's official grassroots program for children and youth. Its goal is to develop basic motor skills in children ages 7 through 12. The program is designed to give participants a strong background in skills that will serve them well not only in track and field, but also in other sports and throughout their lives.
"Statistics show that 30 percent of Canadian children are obese, and the incidence of childhood obesity in Canada has quadrupled in the past 40 years. As the world leader in sports flooring, we are extremely proud to be supporting an event that promotes physical activity in children, which is one of the best ways to combat childhood obesity," said Federico Stroppiana, president, Mondo North and South America. "Running, jumping and throwing are the foundation for all land-based sport and as such, all youth can benefit by participating in RJT."
Right To Play is an international humanitarian organization that uses sport and play programs to improve health, develop life skills and foster peace for children and communities in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the world.
Athletics Canada is the national governing body for track and field, cross-country running, road racing and road running.
