MMX Makes Application to Cease to Be a Reporting Issuer in Canada

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL--(Marketwire - July 24, 2009) - MMX Mineração e Metálicos S.A. ("MMX") (BOVESPA: MMXM3) hereby informs its shareholders and the market in general that further to its voluntary delisting from the Toronto Stock Exchange in November 2008, it has applied to the Ontario Securities Commission ("OSC") for a decision that it is not a reporting issuer in Canada.

If the application is approved and the OSC makes the decision that MMX is not a reporting issuer in Canada, MMX will no longer be a reporting issuer in any jurisdiction in Canada and, as a result, will no longer be required to file financial statements and other continuous disclosure documents with Canadian securities regulatory authorities. A decision by the OSC to permit MMX to cease reporting in Canada will not affect MMX's listing or reporting practices on the São Paulo Stock Exchange (the "Bovespa") in Brazil. As a publicly traded company in Brazil, MMX is subject to stringent reporting and disclosure requirements established by the Brazilian Corporation Law and the regulations of the Brazilian Securities Commission (the Comissão de Valores Mobiliários or the "CVM"), as well as the Novo Mercado special corporate governance rules that are governed by the special corporate governance segment of the Bovespa (the "Novo Mercado") on which MMX is listed.

Notwithstanding a decision of the OSC that MMX is not a reporting issuer in Canada, Canadian securityholders will continue to have access to all financial statements and other continuous disclosure materials required to be filed by MMX under the Brazilian corporate and securities laws and the rules and regulations of the Bovespa, CVM and the Novo Mercado, the same as all other non-Canadian securityholders. All continuous disclosure documents of MMX are publicly available to all securityholders through the Bovespa and the CVM websites at www.bovespa.com.br and www.cvm.gov.br, respectively, and are also published and available in English at MMX's website at www.mmx.com.br.
