Cisco and Cox have been working together to evolve the Cox broadband network to an Internet Protocol next-generation network (IP NGN) optimized to deliver more social, more interactive and more personalized experiences. Cox deployed its Ultimate Internet service package with Cisco DOCSIS 3.0 technologies in additional markets earlier this year, including Lafayette Parish, La., Northern Virginia (Fairfax County and Fredericksburg, Va.), and Palos Verdes, Calif.
Facts:
- The third-largest cable company in the United States, Cox Communications serves more than 6 million residential and commercial customers.
- Cox is using the Cisco DOCSIS® 3.0 solution portfolio, which includes the Cisco® uBR10012 Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS), and Cisco DPC3000 cable modems.
- The end-to-end Cisco DOCSIS 3.0 product portfolio includes backward-compatible Cisco channel-bonded cable modems (with DOCSIS 2.0, 1.1, or 1.0) and provides additional downstream bandwidth to existing DOCSIS 1.x/2.0 subs at a substantially reduced cost per bit.
- The Cisco uBR10012 CMTS supports large-scale delivery of advanced revenue-generating IP services at line rate for business and residential customers. The unique architecture of the Cisco uBR10012 brings unparalleled flexibility and intelligence to the cable network with consistent high performance and sophisticated routing capabilities.
- Cisco DPC3000 Channel Bonded Cable Modems provide a faster connection to the Internet by incorporating four bonded downstream channels along with four bonded upstream channels. These bonded channels can deliver downstream data rates in excess of 160 Mbps and upstream data rates up to 120 Mbps, up to four times the speed of conventional single-channel DOCSIS 2.0 cable modems.
- Cox's DOCSIS 3.0-based Ultimate Internet package currently offers customers base download speeds up to 50 Mbps. In addition, customers can experience an extra burst of speed with PowerBoost® technology.
