ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Ill., Aug. 4, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Lime Energy (Nasdaq:LIME) today announced the completion of energy efficiency improvements at five locations for Vertis Communications, with another site planned for third quarter completion. "We're getting better quality lighting at a much lower run-rate electricity cost," said Damon Snyder, Senior Vice President of National Operations at Vertis Communications. "The projects were completed on budget without any production disruptions, which is a challenge at Vertis' direct marketing facility in Chalfont because this is a 24 hour a day, seven day a week operation."
The locations completed include North Haven, CT, Chalfont, PA, North Brunswick, NJ, along with California sites in Pomona and Sacramento. Saugerties, NY is planned for lighting upgrade shortly. The total energy savings projected to be delivered by these projects amounts to a permanent savings of 5.75 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, providing these environmental benefits annually:
-- 7.6 million fewer pounds of Carbon Dioxide - the leading cause of Global Warming -- 29,900 fewer pounds of Sulfur Dioxide - the leading cause of Acid Rain -- 19,000 fewer pounds of Oxides of Nitrogen - the leading cause of Smog and Acid Precipitation -- The equivalent of 662 passenger cars removed from the road this year.
"Energy efficiency in our facilities, combined with certification of several Vertis sites through the Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) and most recently the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) are key to helping our customers adopt environmentally-friendly business practices," said Quincy L. Allen, Chief Executive Officer for Vertis Communications. "As our customers' environmental awareness increases, we look forward to showing them what we are doing to protect the environment."
"These projects are examples of how energy efficiency is good for the environment, plus the projected $735,000 savings per year across their portfolio so far can also add tremendously to the financial and business goals of a company like Vertis. We are honored to work with them at these facilities, with the potential for many more," said Dan Parke, President of Lime Energy. "Businesses in America are being asked by their customers and the public to take steps to "go green" and we at Lime Energy are proud of our work in designing and installing these energy upgrades to meet efficiency goals. Our hats are off to Vertis for taking the leadership position they have in this industry," continued Parke.
