BASKING RIDGE, NJ--(Marketwire - September 10, 2009) - Avaya, a leading global provider of
business communications software, systems and services, today announced it
has been positioned in the leaders quadrant in the Magic Quadrant for
Corporate Telephony, 2009 report published by research and advisory firm,
Gartner, Inc.*
Co-authored by industry analysts Steve Blood, Geoff Johnson and Jay
Lassman, the report positions vendors in one of four quadrants based on the
companies' completeness of vision and ability to execute on that vision.
The four quadrants are Leaders, Challengers, Visionaries and Niche Players.
Vendors are evaluated according to their completeness of vision and ability
to execute. The Gartner definition of completeness of vision includes
market understanding, innovation, marketing, product and geographic
strategies among the key criteria. The ability to execute concentrates on
products and services, company viability, marketing execution, customer
experience and operations among the criteria. According to Gartner,
vendors listed in the leader's quadrant "demonstrate strength and can
affect market trends in all the criteria on which they are evaluated.
Leaders tend to have broad geographical coverage across the globe, or
particular strengths in one or more key global markets."
According to the report, "the corporate telephony market has evolved from
one of proprietary hardware toward one of standards-based hardware and
software largely designed to support the next generation of
communications." While acknowledging that the market is not wholly there
yet, the report calls new developments "encouraging," as "companies can use
communications to deliver benefits across the organization, while
consolidating technologies..." Further, the report states:
"To meet the demands of this corporate telephony market, successful
suppliers offer scalable solutions using technologies that leverage
Internet-based architectures such as Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), but
that still provide the necessary levels of resilience, functionality and
integration into IT applications with the voice quality demanded by users."
"Avaya continues to be a leader in the corporate telephony market,
extending our track record of innovation with the launch of Avaya Aura this
year," said Linda Dotts, vice president, Unified Communications Product and
Solutions Marketing, Avaya. "Avaya Aura's SIP-based, unified communications
architecture brings the performance, flexibility and reliability of our
telephony solutions to customers as the platform for all real-time and
non-real-time communications."
