China BAK Battery Inc. (CBAK) is engaged in manufacturing rechargeable lithium-based battery cells. "CBAK net revenues for the third quarter of FY09 were $44.7 million, up 9.5% from $40.8 million last quarter, and down 34.7% from $68.5 million in the same quarter of last year. The increase in net revenues over the net revenues generated in the last quarter was the result of improving business environment in China, and new revenue sources such as polymer cells being used in notebook computers and prismatic cells exported to India.
"Since bottoming in early 2009, many analysts believe that the National Electrical Manufacturers Association's Electroindustry Business Confidence Index has shown general improvement across the four global regions surveyed. For example, survey respondents' opinions of current business conditions have improved since the beginning of the year, while the August 2009 report shows survey respondents in North America and Asia view positively the current business environment. In addition, respondents across all four regions (which include North America, Europe, Latin America, Europe and Asia) believe that future business conditions six months out are likely to improve."
