ATi Demonstrates How Smart Education Early Warning System Saves Money and Can Improve High School Graduation Rates

PHOENIX, AZ--(Marketwire - October 26, 2009) - Adaptive Technologies, Inc. (ATi), the Intelligent Information(SM) company, is revealing to school districts, foundations, corporations and state officials how the proprietary predictive analytics SMART Education (SMART ED™) solution provides an early warning system that helps educators and administrators prioritize intervention and retention efforts to improve the number of high school graduates.

ATi's President and CEO, Susan Cordts, in a series of special speaking engagements and education forums, is collaborating with education, business and community leaders in an effort to implement SMART ED pilot programs to further demonstrate the impact predictive modeling has on retaining students through graduation. The goal is to exhibit early intervention success and ultimately improve long-term economics by increasing the number of high school graduates. Today, one American high school student gives up on school every 29 seconds.

At the events, Ms. Cordts showcases ATi SMART ED capabilities through its research-based engagement with Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) in Louisville, Kentucky. ATi worked with JCPS to test the ability to predict high school dropouts at an individual level. By utilizing the data models to identify students according to their likelihood of dropping out in the current year, next year, or into the future, JCPS retention efforts were successfully prioritized for greatest impact. ATi then applied the intelligent information gained in this project to predict how to best target the efforts and investments of the Louisville Education and Employment Partnership (LEEP) to make the greatest impact on potential dropouts.

"ATi's SMART ED solution provided insight to better target the students who are most likely to benefit from LEEP with a net effect of 40% improvement in cost savings in our trial," said Susan Cordts, president and CEO of Adaptive Technologies, Inc. "Our findings provided valuable intelligence to JCPS and LEEP which shows how saving 98 students translates to an estimated $25 million future economic benefit to the Louisville community with a $680,000 investment in their targeted retention programs."

SMART ED's early warning system provides a GPS dashboard view to educators, counselors and administrators of information at multiple levels -- student, school-wide, district-wide. Dropout and graduation probabilities are monitored on a daily basis and projected well into the future. Trends become visible early to act upon them in a timely manner as alternative intervention recommendations are presented with a likelihood of success.

Susan will be sharing recent predictive modeling results and insights as a speaker at the upcoming 21st Annual National Dropout Prevention Network Conference held in San Antonio, Texas October 25 - 28, 2009. The program brings together leaders who seek to strengthen interventions among school, community, and families to reduce the number at-risk of dropping out of school.

ATi recently presented "Leadership with Early Identification & Intervention to Improve High School Graduation Rates" on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at the Arizona Department of Education's Arizona Middle & High School Renewal Conference 2009. ATi has formed a coalition of Arizona businesses, foundations, Arizona Department of Education officials and local education leaders solely focused on improving the rate of high school graduations in Arizona. The second forum meeting hosted by APS (Arizona Public Service) took place on October 21, 2009.
