ANDOVER, MA--(Marketwire - November 2, 2009) - Enterasys, the network infrastructure and security division of Siemens Enterprise Communications Group, today announced the availability of its free Extreme Wireless Upgrade program for Extreme Networks customers seeking to protect existing investments and simplify the upgrade path to 802.11n, as well as immediately increase performance and security. The new program enables Summit users to upgrade current WM Series wireless controllers and A350/A450 access points with significantly enhanced software that is not available from Extreme. Enterasys will also honor up to one year of existing Extreme Networks wireless maintenance and support.
"Our Extreme Wireless Upgrade program is a risk-free way for Extreme wireless customers to realize the benefits of new features including integrated guest access, Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP) support, and additional security and performance enhancements," said Chris Crowell, Enterasys executive vice president and general manager. "Because Enterasys operates its own wireless business and doesn't rely on a changing carousel of OEM partners, Summit users can avoid the headaches that often accompany an OEM vendor transition."
"Several companies that offer OEMed WLAN products have changed suppliers at least once, and with the ensuing support and migration issues this causes for customers, it is getting harder to justify buying these products from anyone but an actual manufacturer," said Andrew Braunberg, research director of Enterprise Networks and Security at Current Analysis.
This program also simplifies upgrading to 802.11n wireless technology by enabling customers to continue to use existing Summit controllers and access point mounting brackets.
"When you combine the advanced functionality and flexibility of the HiPath offering with Enterasys' 95 percent customer satisfaction rating, and our commitment to honor existing Extreme Networks maintenance agreements, this becomes a highly compelling offer," added Crowell.
