ALLDATA(R) Showcases i.SHOP(TM) Compliant Technology

ALLDATA Promotes Technology Allowing Auto Repair Shop Systems to Seamlessly Exchange Data

LAS VEGAS, Nov. 5, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- ALLDATA LLC, the leading provider of vehicle manufacturers' service and repair information for professional repair shops, is showcasing its newest application of the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association's i.SHOP(TM) Version 3 (i.SHOP3) standard during Automotive Aftermarket Industry Week in Las Vegas.

The i.SHOP3 technology standard enables auto repair shop equipment and systems from any participating company to share information about the customer, the vehicle and the work being performed. ALLDATA is one of the original architects and implementers of the i.SHOP standard, introducing its first i.SHOP compliant information server in 2001.

"With i.SHOP3, it is easier and more efficient to use ALLDATA information for writing service, diagnostics and parts purchases," said ALLDATA Vice President of Product and Business Development, Steve Gill. "ALLDATA becomes a more valuable part of all marketing and repair activities in the shop."

"It's often difficult for the end user to comprehend the technical advantages of i.SHOP," says Ben Johnson, Senior Product Marketing Manager at ALLDATA. "The best way to explain i.SHOP's benefits is to show them the finished products. We can do that since two major automotive technology companies recently announced products using i.SHOP3 to leverage ALLDATA's information resources. And we expect others to follow."

ALLDATA will also be featured in the "Shop of Tomorrow," at the Automotive Aftermarket Products Exposition (AAPEX(TM)), where the future of tool and information integration will be demonstrated. "We'll be showing a prototype ALLDATA application which merges ALLDATA's OE diagnostic processes with vehicle data via i.SHOP3 interfaces," explains Johnson. "Using wireless technology, a technician will be able to more efficiently diagnose a vehicle with ALLDATA Repair information and vehicle data. Information about the vehicle and diagnostic results will be seamlessly shared with a shop management system and an alignment system. The Shop of Tomorrow will also feature our ability to support telematics. In this demonstration, a technician will remotely diagnose a vehicle without ever touching it. The entire integration was done in weeks instead of months or years, thanks to i.SHOP3."
