CardinalCommerce Granted Patent by the United States Patent and Trademark Office

Patent Addition Complements Current Patent Holdings

MENTOR, Ohio, Nov. 10, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- CardinalCommerce, the worldwide leading enabler of payment brands, announced today that it has been granted a United States patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Patent US 7,606,771 B2, Dynamic Number Authentication for Credit/Debit Cards, was issued to CardinalCommerce on October 20, 2009. This latest patent complements our European/US patent portfolio. At present, Cardinal's intellectual property portfolio includes three US and three European patents, as well as other issued and pending patents.

"Cardinal is fully committed to continuously servicing our Customers by improving our technologies, security, and intellectual property position," said Michael A. Keresman, III, Chief Executive Officer, CardinalCommerce. "The new patent strengthens our existing intellectual property and particularly strengthens US patent 7,140,036 B2 and European patent EP 1,221,146 B1. It would be difficult to imagine a centralized authentication strategy or system that wouldn't benefit from these patents."

"Similarly," continued Keresman, "our Universal Merchant Platform US Patent 7,051,002 B2 provides Cardinal with the intellectual property position to enable payment methods using authentication for merchants and merchant service providers. Now we have intellectual property which aids both the sellers of goods and services, and the funding sources. We are excited about our future."

"The innovations protected by these patents have been readily appreciated by worldwide Patent Offices as especially inventive," said Pat Roche, Partner, Fay Sharpe LLP. "We are quite pleased with this recognition and the legal scope of protection afforded to the inventions. Commensurate industry appreciation of our IP rights is expected, as Cardinal will not accept anything less."
