The Truth About Human Behavior -- New Book Presents a Comprehensive Analysis on Why People Behave the Way They Do

GLENDORA, Calif., Nov. 12, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Delving into the truth behind human behavior, Dr. Maurice Cayem applies what he has used and developed while engaging in the practice of behavior therapy in an informative book. Released through Xlibris, his new book, Why We Behave: A Practical Guide, provides an in-depth discussion that attempts to walk readers through an experiential model of behavior while presenting an angle that focuses much on how one's experience of the world affects himself and others.

Readers will learn that behaviors are the expressions of one's needs and are also the language of one's being. In this edifying book, Dr. Cayem discusses background information and introduces readers to sociobiology and its implications. Why We Behave elaborates that behaviors are dynamic adjustment reactions to the environments. Through thirteen relevant chapters, it explores world views and some historical basis that may have contributed to different human behaviors today. It explains the author's different theories of behavior as it describes what behaviors are, providing a functional analysis. It ultimately probes deeper into the precursors of intervention and how one can achieve behavioral change.

Presenting a comprehensive discussion on science and religion, this book likewise attempts to present a practical approach to how these two can work together without attempting to promote one or the other. Why We Behave: A Practical Guide eloquently presents different angles to make one understand the essence of having knowledge on one's behavior as it can affect one's life. About the Author

Dr. Cayem was trained in behaviorism in the animal labs of CSULA in the early seventies. During his under-graduate years, he worked with hyperactive, aphasic children between four and six years of age in an experimental program at CSULA called the Severe Language Developmental Aphasia (SLDA) program. After earning his BA and MS degrees there, he went on to teach severely handicapped children while earning a Ph.D. in behavioral science at United States International University, now Alliant International University. His published dissertation was on training care takers to use Applied Behavior Analysis with severe behavior problem developmentally disabled children. After earning his doctoral degree, Dr. Cayem started Independent Consulting Services, a consulting firm that caters to people caring for developmentally disabled or autistic children and adults, and is currently its Director. Dr. Cayem then earned a post doctoral Masters of Science degree in psychopharmacology from the California School of Professional Psychology, now also Alliant University, to better serve this population which is often on psychotropic medications. Although the current work was written with people in the industry in mind, meaning people that care for developmentally disabled, autistic, or handicapped individuals and must deal with their behavioral issues, it is not intended to be narrowly focused on the "business" but rather on the nature of behavior itself.
