COMME DES GARÇONS PRESENTS MARIMEKKO IN TOKYO

Comme des Garçons showcases Marimekko design in the prestigious Seibu department
stores in Tokyo's Ginza and Shibuya districts from 20 November to 25 December.
The creation of the Marimekko displays was led by Rei Kawakubo, designer and
owner of Comme des Garçons.

For the presentation, Marimekko has put together an ensemble of products with
the theme “Marimekko's interpretation of Comme de Garçons”. The range includes a
new version of Marimekko's classic even-striped T-shirt, designed exclusively
for Comme des Garçons by Virva Launo, Creative Director of Marimekko's fashion
line; matching Tasaraita-striped Porsas urhea (Pig the Brave) stuffed animals;
popular Matkuri canvas bags; and cotton bags in the exuberant floral
Siirtolapuutarha (Allotment) pattern by Marimekko's textile designer Maija
Louekari. All the products will also be for sale.

"Marimekko and Comme des Garçons have long had a mutual respect for each other,
which stems from a similarity of culture and aesthetics. Personally, Rei
Kawakubo has always been inspirational as a designer of the highest integrity
and imagination," says Virva Launo, Creative Director of Marimekko's fashion
line.

“I admire Marimekko's visual image to which the company has remained true since
its establishment nearly 60 years ago,” explains Rei Kawakubo, designer and
owner of Comme des Garçons.

Comme des Garçons has often featured phenomena and brands it considers
interesting in its displays. Prior to Marimekko, the celebrated fashion
photographer Tim Walker and the famous French shoe brand Repetto, for example,
have been presented by Comme des Garçons in a similar way.
