Enhanced Infoblox Software Sets a New Standard for Automating Core Network Services Infrastructure and Services
Infoblox Release 5.0r1 Includes Major Enhancements and the Only Fully Web-Based User Interface for DNS, DHCP and IPAM (DDI)
| Source: Infoblox
SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwire - December 14, 2009) - Infoblox Inc. today announced availability
of Infoblox NIOS software version 5.0r1 -- a new release that further
extends Infoblox's leadership in infrastructure for core network services,
including domain name resolution (DNS), IP address assignment (DHCP) and IP
Address Management (IPAM) -- or DDI.
DNS, DHCP and IPAM services are mission-critical with availability required
24x7 in any organization. Put simply: without core network services,
IP-based networks and applications grind to a halt. Unfortunately, most
organizations today continue to leverage manual processes and primitive
tools like spreadsheets to manage the various systems for delivering these
services. This is highly inefficient, wasting precious IT cycles --
especially when stressed IT staffs are being asked to do more with less --
and often leads to errors, which can compromise network and application
availability.
The latest software release includes significant new IPAM capabilities,
adds new features for logging and compliance and also includes the
industry's most automated solution for DNSSEC. Additionally, the updated
Infoblox Grid Manager gives Infoblox the only solution on the market that
manages all aspects of the system with a single Web-based graphical user
interface (GUI) and does not require the use of client software,
command-line tools, root access to appliances or other interfaces to
accomplish critical tasks.
Overall, the new NIOS software version 5.0r1, which includes Infoblox's
patented Grid technology, consolidates and automates layers of
traditionally complex and manual core network services related tasks,
saving time, reducing errors and lowering costs.
Enhancements Set New Standard for Automation
The Infoblox Grid Manager is a Web 2.0 application that automates and
manages all aspects of the system, including both appliance hardware and
software and the core network services and associated data. The GUI
manages appliance deployment and configuration, software patches and
upgrades, backup and restore, disaster recovery and all tasks associated
with maintaining physical and virtual appliances.
Unlike other systems on the market, there is no need to use client software
or command line tools or to gain root access to appliances in order to
configure protocols or install software patches. This is a major advantage
that makes system administration reliable, secure, and consistent with
compliance requirements for audit-ability. Additionally, all aspects of
data management and reporting -- from creating DNS zones and records to
managing network discovery, resolving IP conflicts and allocating subnets
-- are wizard driven and intuitive.
The GUI is customizable by role, so that each administrator can have their
own "dashboard" that presents them with only the services and data for
which they have permission. This enables extensive delegation of
management and supports self-service for many common operations like
allocating an IP address for a printer or troubleshooting a connectivity
problem, providing lower overall costs and better service to end users.
Release 5.0r1 also includes new task scheduling capabilities that allow
queuing of management tasks for execution at user designated times.
Administrators can allow junior team members to schedule configuration
changes and review changes before they are executed. With scheduling,
administrators no longer need to be present during off-hour maintenance
windows. All administrative actions are extensively logged and contain
critical information including which administrator made a change and the
specific details of each change. Enhanced audit logging tools make it easy
to provide administrative reports for compliance purposes and to track and
correct administrative errors.
Finally, Infoblox version 5.0r1 includes completely automated DNSSEC
management. Zones are signed with a single command and are re-signed
automatically when records are updated. And, keys are generated and
distributed automatically. Infoblox provides the only DNSSEC solution with
fully automated key management and key rollover. (For more information,
see related press release also distributed Dec. 14, 2009: "Infoblox
Delivers the Industry's Most Automated DNSSEC Solution.")
Infoblox Vice President of Marketing, Richard Kagan, commented: "Just last
month, Infoblox was recognized by Gartner as the DDI market leader and the
Infoblox solution was the only system to receive Gartner's highest 'Strong
Positive' rating. Infoblox NIOS version 5.0r1 further extends our lead and
provides significant benefits to our customers."
Pricing and Availability
The new NIOS software version 5.0r1 will be available Dec. 21, 2009.
Pricing for the solution on the Infoblox-250 appliance starts at $2,495 in
the U.S. Software upgrades are available free of charge for all current
customers with a valid maintenance contract.
