KOKOMO, Ind., Dec. 18, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Haynes International, Inc. (Nasdaq:HAYN) announced that it has achieved a safety milestone in its Indiana operations. It has surpassed more than one million hours worked and more than one year without a lost work day case.

Haynes received Liberty Mutual's "Gold Award" for working one million man hours or more without a lost work day case. Nick Wayne, Consultant -- Loss Control Advisory Services for Liberty Mutual, presented the award in Kokomo Monday, December 14. "Liberty Mutual is very proud to partner with a company that is so dedicated to protecting its employees and providing them with a safe work environment," Wayne said. Jeff Carter, Deputy Commissioner, IOSHA and Greg Goodnight, Mayor, Kokomo, were also present when Haynes received the award.
In 2007, Haynes was awarded the Nation Safety Achievement Award from the National Safety Council. From 2008 to 2009 Haynes experienced a 63% reduction in recordable injuries and a 100% reduction in lost workday cases. The Company's total case incidence rate (TCIR) for injuries and illnesses is 48.4% below the Bureau of Labor Statistics national industry rate. The days away, restricted work activity and /or job transfer (DART) rate is 63.6% below the national industry rate.
