SmallCapSentinel.com: An Army of Good News

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 19, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Alternative Fuel Technologies, Inc. (Pink Sheets:AFTC) has once again announced an agreement with the United States Army, this time reporting that it has been selected for a new U.S. Army Phase 1 SBIR award entitled: "Ultra High Pressure Jet Propellant-8 (JP-8) Fuel Injection System."

This is important news for AFTC and its shareholders as it appears that the company is both leveraging its previous successes and uniquely qualified in the highly desirable sector of emerging alternative fuel technology. Considering the difficulties in acquiring contracts from the U.S. Army, and the fact that they have become to an extent, a repeat customer, today’s news is both new business and an affirmation wrapped in one.

It is also a tacit endorsement of AFTC’s use of Dimethyl Ether (DME), a new ultra-clean diesel fuel replacement that can be produced from abundant resources including natural gas, landfill methane, coal and biomass. At current oil prices, DME can be produced and distributed at less than 1/2 the cost of conventional fuel. When burned in a diesel engine, all soot emissions are eliminated and NOx emissions are lowered dramatically without the use of expensive exhaust aftertreatment devices.

Currying the favor of the U.S. Army is no small achievement and this is magnified by Alternative Fuel Technologies relatively small stature in the lexicon of public companies. However, it is often the lean and mean innovator that rises to service a much needed niche, perhaps even a niche that can evolve into a category. Building credibility now would certainly seem a boon to future expansion in the lucrative alternative fuel arena.
