CANYON LAKE, Texas, Feb. 22, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- COPsync, Inc. (OTCBB:COYN), a software technology provider to law enforcement and emergency service professionals, announces today that the Refugio Sheriff's Office and the Brewster Sherriff's Office were awarded funding through the 2009 Operation Stonegarden Grant, to implement the COPsync™ information sharing technology. These Texas law enforcement agencies will gain valuable access to real-time law enforcement information in a mobile environment as well as the ability to share critical information at the point of incident as crimes are reported and investigated.
The Operation Stonegarden (OPSG) grant is provided through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), U.S. Department of Homeland Security and provides funding to designated localities to enhance cooperation, coordination and operational capabilities of and between Federal, State, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies in a joint mission to secure the United States borders along routes of ingress from International borders. Also included are travel corridors in states bordering Mexico and Canada, as well as states and territories with International water borders. Since its inception, the intent of OPSG has been to enhance law enforcement preparedness and operational readiness along the borders of the United States. During the FY 2009, OPSG provided $60,000,000 to be made available for local units of government at the county level or equivalent and Federally-recognized tribes that apply for Federal funds through their State Administrative Agency (SAA). The FY 2009 OPSG funds provide a flexible framework of funding to support operational efforts along our Nation's borders, such as the prevention of, and operational response to illegal activities.
COPsync, Inc. CEO, Russell Chaney, said, "The U.S. Department of Homeland Security should be commended for their expanding role in providing the technology necessary to secure our Nation's borders. These grants, which will be used for the implementation of the COPsync software, will enable law enforcement personnel to secure key cross-jurisdictional information about a vehicle, plate, or location and when those elements have been involved in weapons, assaultive, drug or gang activity. Having access to this information is essential in order to properly protect our borders."
