CANYON LAKE, Texas, March 23, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- COPsync, Inc. (OTCBB:COYN), a software technology provider to law enforcement and emergency service professionals, announces today that the Irion County Sheriff's Office, Sterling County Sheriff's Office, City of Eden Police Department and the City of Junction Police Department, each in the State of Texas, were awarded grant funding, through the Recovery Act - Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program, to implement the COPsync™ information sharing technology. The technology is designed to bring these Texas law enforcement agencies into compliance with federal mandates established by the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in regards to interoperability and information sharing.

The award of this funding to implement our software reaffirms the value that COPsync's software presents to the law enforcement community. We believe that a proactive stance on the advancement of technology in law enforcement is necessary in order to create a truly nationwide information sharing network."

The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program, through the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance, is the primary provider of federal criminal justice funding to state and local jurisdictions. JAG funds support all components of the criminal justice system, from multijurisdictional drug and gang task forces to crime prevention and domestic violence programs, courts, corrections, treatment, and justice information sharing initiatives. JAG-funded projects may address crime through the provision of services directly to individuals and/or communities and by improving the effectiveness and efficiency of criminal justice systems, processes and procedures. These funds are administered by the Criminal Justice Division (CJD) of the Office of the Governor of the applicable state, based upon competitive scoring by the relevant Council of Governments. The law enforcement agencies mentioned above participated in a competitive grant application process under which their applications were scored by the Criminal Justice Advisory Committee of the Concho Valley Council of Governments. Those scores and funding recommendations were then reviewed and received final approval by the Office of the Governor of the State of Texas.
