Tactical Communications Group and ViaSat Announce Technical and Marketing Collaboration Agreement

TEWKSBURY, MA--(Marketwire - March 29, 2010) -  Tactical Communications Group (TCG), an independent provider of tactical data links ("TDL") for military test, training and operational users worldwide and ViaSat Inc. (NASDAQ: VSAT) have signed a technology and marketing alliance agreement to collaborate to bring innovative products to market for the benefit of their joint operational customers which leverage ViaSat transformational Link 16 terminals and management software, and the TCG Link 16 tactical data link software suite.

Link 16 is the dominant military data link used today to provide secure, jam-resistant communications, enabling interoperable situational awareness and command and control ("C2") information sharing, to and from frontline air and surface platforms. While Link 16 has been widely deployed, ubiquitous fielding of Link 16 communication systems beyond these frontline platforms to edge warfighters has been inhibited by the size, weight, power and price of the radio communication terminals, and the complexity of using Link 16 software applications.

With breakthrough advances by ViaSat in the size, weight, power and price for Link 16 terminals, coupled with technical advancements and improved ease-of-use from TCG Link 16 software, the combined ViaSat-TCG system opens up the potential to extend Link 16 communications to a multitude of new users and use cases.

ViaSat and TCG specifically intend to collaborate on technical matters to ensure seamless product integration, and on marketing and business development initiatives. The marketing and business development initiatives will leverage the ViaSat and TCG market-leading presence in international and domestic military segments to ensure proper market awareness of the compelling power of the ViaSat-TCG system, and the importance of this combined offering as a fundamental building block in helping to make network-centric warfare operations a reality.

"We continue to make rapid advances in our product line, which enable breakthrough advances in military communications. We look forward to working with TCG and having their complementary tactical data link software enhance our offerings for the benefit of our worldwide military customers," said Paul Baca, ViaSat Vice President and General Manager for Tactical Data Link Systems.

Marty McDonough, President and CEO of TCG said, "We are pleased to announce this collaboration relationship with ViaSat. With the capabilities of ViaSat's new terminal products and management software, coupled with our comprehensive Link 16 software, we believe we can deliver new, rapidly-deployable operational and ISR solutions which address acute C2 operational needs of our military customers."
