3D Video Captured With Viking Systems' Next Generation Visualization System Showcased at the 12th World Congress of Endoscopic Surgery

WESTBOROUGH, Mass., April 14, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Viking Systems (OTCBB:VKNG) announced today that video captured during preclinical evaluations of the Viking 3DHD prototype visualization system will be shown in the Sony booth during the 12th World Congress of Endoscopic Surgery to be held at the Gaylord National Hotel in National Harbor, Maryland from April 14 - 17, 2010. A central focus of the 12th World Congress of Endoscopic Surgery is "The World of Technique." The program will highlight different surgical techniques and strategies from around the world. A world-class faculty will emphasize surgical techniques using didactics, images, and video to address both established and novel therapeutic modalities from North America and beyond.

"Once again, we are proud that Sony has chosen to use video captured with the Next Generation Viking System 3DHD Visualization System to demonstrate the future of minimally invasive surgical vision, especially at this venue and gathering of the world's elite MIS surgeons," said Jed Kennedy, President and CEO of Viking Systems, Inc. "This will be a great opportunity for this large group of minimally invasive surgeons to view firsthand the quality of the stand alone, cost effective 3DHD imaging Viking plans to introduce later this year," Kennedy added.

In October 2009, at the American College of Surgeon's annual Clinical Congress in Chicago, Viking first demonstrated the "Next Generation" 3DHD camera system in an interactive format utilizing a prototype Sony 3DHD flat panel display. Then again, in November, at MEDICA, the world's largest medical device exposition held every year in Dusseldorf, Viking and Sony teamed up to present the technology combination.

Since then, Viking Systems has taken steps it believes will lead to the successful launch of the Next Generation 3DHD System currently planned to take place in the fourth quarter of 2010.  Successful preclinical, multi specialty evaluations of the system were recently completed.
