Seminar Focusing on International Trade Opportunities Set for April 22

Program is a Joint Effort of Los Angeles World Airports and Port of Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, April 19, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) is presenting a one-day, no-cost seminar focusing on international trade opportunities available to local companies in the fields of architecture, construction and engineering. The program, which gets underway on April 22 at 9 a.m. at Los Angeles Southwest College, is a joint effort of LAWA and the Port of Los Angeles.

"Persons attending will learn of a wealth of new resources, from such agencies as the U.S. Dept. of Commerce, the Mayor's Office of International Trade, the Minority Business Opportunity Center and the Centers for International Trade Development," said Joyce Sloss, director of LAWA's Business & Job Resources Center, which is hosting the program.

Other seminar participants will include representatives of Africa-USA International Chamber of Commerce; Alameda Corridor Jobs Coalition; California Community Connection Corporation, Centers for International Trade Development, City of Los Angeles Community Development Department; Port of Los Angeles; California Work Source Center; logistics companies and trade finance specialists.

"There are many opportunities for American businesses beyond these shores and there is an abundance of assistance available to them when venturing abroad," Sloss said. "This seminar will provide businesses with next-step opportunities for referrals to the appropriate government agencies and specialized departments to access these opportunities."

Sloss noted that the seminar will be tailored towards company decision-makers -- owners, presidents, CEOs, COOs and other senior management personnel from small and medium-sized businesses.  "These businesses should have been established for a minimum of two years, stable with a solid grasp of their domestic operations, interested in expanding internationally and are in industry sectors with known values abroad, such as architecture, construction and engineering," she said.

Reservations for the event should be made at BJRDRSVP@lawa.org. Seating is limited.

Los Angeles Southwest College is located at 1600 W. Imperial Highway.
