ORANGE, Calif., June 7, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Canyon Acres Children and Family Services, a Southern California charity organization committed to providing homes, care, treatment and supportive services for abused, neglected and emotionally troubled children and their families, today announced the successful conclusion of an inaugural study module for social work professors and students of Taiwan's Tunghai University. During the one-month program, two professors and three interns intensely focused on the inner workings of Canyon Acres' Wraparound Services Program.
The Wraparound program seeks to literally wrap families with a team of professionals and supportive services to create safe, stable and healthy homes in the overall effort to break or prevent multi-generational cycles of abuse and neglect. Starting with general case reviews and staff trainings, Wraparound professionals attempted to expose Taiwanese delegates to all facets of programming, including family team meetings, emergency team meetings, case planning and Canyon Acres all-staff meetings. The goal was to provide authentic experiences from the perspective of every role—from program director to supervisor, care coordinator, youth partner and parent partner.
"Hosting the Tunghai professors and students was extremely educational for all parties," said Wraparound Program Director Scott Van Kamp. "We had a very rich exchange of cultural information and the visit served as a reminder of the universal, cross-cultural importance of giving children and families the support they need for sustainable, healthy homes. The visit reminded us of the paramount importance of human connection.
