The indigenous plant, also known as Prunus Virginiana, is most commonly known for producing the berries that give jam, jelly or syrup its distinctive, rich flavor.
Kilbourn Park and Organic Greenhouse is highly regarded as one of Chicago's natural outlets for educational outreach and harvesting programs. In 2008, the park received the first-ever public fruit tree orchard in a major metropolitan city. Veria's Choke Cherry tree will be added to the bountiful selection of apple, pear, plum and cherry trees already in blossom at the park.
