Mobile Technology Takes Off in Human Capital Management

Use of Mobile Devices for HR and Talent Management Activities Boosts Employee Performance and Engagement by 22% and 14% Respectively

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire - July 8, 2010) - Aberdeen Group, a Harte-Hanks Company (NYSE: HHS), has just released new research findings on the use of mobile technology in human capital management. The report, Mobile HCM: Workforce and Talent Management on the Move, found that top performing companies are 26% more likely than all other organizations to use mobile tools to facilitate HCM processes and workflows. While scheduling activities, learning programs and talent acquisition workflows were found to be the most common current use cases for mobile tools, the integration of mobile performance management capabilities was the top planned capability for future use.

Not only did the study find mobile tools to be gaining adoption for use within human capital management, it also found they were driving increased productivity, employee performance and employee engagement. By streamlining workflows and approval processes, organizations using mobility tools in HCM saw a 13% year-over-year increase in manager productivity versus a 6% improvement for organizations not using mobile technology. In addition, 65% of employees at companies using mobility tools for HCM rated themselves as "highly engaged" -- versus 57% at organizations without mobile HCM. But it's not just the technology driving results. "By a wide margin, the top strategy employed by Best-in-Class companies embodies a mindset around the use of mobility tools," said Mollie Lombardi, senior research analyst with Aberdeen's Human Capital Management practice. "Mobile devices are seen as not just an extension of existing tools, but as a new medium through which to attract, retain, develop and manage people within the organization."

Aberdeen's report provides more detail about how forward-looking organizations are tackling the challenges of security, data integration and culture change to make the best use of mobile devices for human capital processes.
