Victoria University's Phoenix Research Projects Honored With TIBCO Academic Award

Advanced Research Program Encourages Students to Turn Academic Vision Into Industry-Ready Solutions

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA--(Marketwire - July 12, 2010) -  TIBCO Software Inc. (NASDAQ: TIBX) today announced that it has granted the 2009 TIBCO Academic Award to three innovative projects developed under the Victoria University's Phoenix Research Program at the School of Management and Information Systems.

The Phoenix program working together with TIBCO supports the cross-section of game-changing research, curriculum innovation, and industry activities in focus areas fundamental to supporting the creation of 21st Century technologies to solve 21st Century problems.

Three Phoenix Research Program projects were selected for their use of TIBCO technology in solving real-world problems and reinforcing research concepts.

  • TIBCO and OSGi (www.osgi.org) Platform Interoperability Project by Luke Kellett, Masters by course student.
This project was selected for its business potential and innovation for establishing communication links between OSGi services and TIBCO ActiveMatrix BusinessWorks. The project demonstrated how the overall complexity of building, maintaining and deploying applications can be significantly reduced by up to 30 percent. The OSGi Service Platform and TIBCO software are deployed in many Fortune Global 100 companies today, where the results of this project could be immediately realized.

  • Global Weather Forecasting Project by Anish Sathyan and Anju Jacob, Masters by course students.
This project was selected for diligence, commitment and consistency in demonstrating how internal data sources may be combined with external public or private sources in order to make faster, better business decisions. This project used TIBCO software to connect public weather data sources to a user interface that enables flexible queries to be made against all the combined information. The students integrated the front-end with TIBCO technologies on the back-end and the data sources to demonstrate how global weather forecasting services may be queried and delivered in real-time.

  • Integrated Supply Chain Project by Paul Moynihan, Masters by research student.
This project was selected for demonstrating how research in the improvement of logistics and supply chain performance through seamless supplier-customer communications is supported through the use of business platforms and products such as TIBCO ActiveMatrix®. This project is an example of Victoria University research findings moving one step closer to deployment reality.
