People Power Company Announces Technology Advisory Board

Team of Experts Collaborate on Open Source to Drive Innovation in Energy Efficiency


PALO ALTO, CA--(Marketwire - July 14, 2010) -  People Power Company today announced its Technology Advisory Board, which includes leaders in the area of research and innovation in wireless sensor technology, building developer communities, and energy management. The Board will offer strategic direction on product development and help to expand People Power's industry leadership in promoting energy efficiency for homes and buildings.

People Power Co. offers a way for consumers to monitor and control energy consumption at the appliance level, ultimately driving down energy bill costs while reducing carbon emissions. The company announced its SuRF Developers Kit earlier this year and expects to unveil new products for the consumer market in the coming months. Additionally, People Power Co. recently challenged developers with a SuRFing Competition to create the coolest wireless sensor for in or around the home. Contest winners, selected by the Technology Advisory Board, will be announced in September 2010.

People Power Technology Advisory Board Members

Dr. Phil Beecher, Technology Advisory Board Chairman, is a consultant at Beecher Communications Consultants Ltd. He also serves as the Chair of Edge Conformity Group at OpenSG and 802.15.4 Task Group 4g Chair at IEEE. His interests revolve around real time data communications software engineering and his specialties are in real time embedded C, IEEE 802.15.4, Zigbee, Bluetooth, 802.11.802.1.

Professor David E. Culler is a computer scientist and professor of computer science at the University of California, Berkeley. David founded Arch Rock, a company that makes wireless networked sensors and invented the TinyOS operating system. He received his B.A. from UC Berkeley, 1980, and a M.S. and Ph.D. from MIT, 1985 and 1989 respectively. David is the founding Director of Intel Research, UC Berkeley and the Associate Chair of the EECS department. He is a standing member of the National Academy of Engineering, an ACM Fellow, and was selected in Scientific American Top 50 Researchers and Technology Review 10 Technologies that Will Change the World.

Professor Philip Levis is an assistant professor in the Computer Science and Electrical Engineering departments of Stanford University. He received his ScB from Brown University, his MS from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and his PhD from the University of California, Berkeley. Philip currently serves as chair of the TinyOS Core Working Group and is a standing member of the TinyOS Network Working Group, the TinyOS Alliance Working Group, and a Microsoft New Faculty Fellow. Philip is also a recipient of the prestigious NSF Career award.

Professor Prabal Dutta is an assistant professor the University of Michigan. His research interests straddle the hardware/software interface and include embedded systems, networking, and architecture, with a focus on low-power, wireless embedded systems. His research has enabled some of the largest sensor networks deployed to date including the 1,000+ node ExScal project and the 557 node DARPA NEST Final Experiment. Prabal's work has won several awards including an IPSN Best Paper, an ISLPED Design Contest Winner, and a COMDEX Best of Show. He is a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow and a Microsoft Research Graduate Fellow.

David Intersimone is a passionate and innovative software industry veteran and a developer icon who runs the rampant online developer community at Embarcadero. He is a long-standing champion of software developers and works to ensure that their needs are folded into Embarcadero's strategic product plans. Before Embarcadero, David spent more than 20 years with Borland Software in various evangelism, engineering, and development capacities, including creating the company's developer relations program. He previously served as Director of Product Services for Softsel Computer Products Inc. (now Merisel.) David holds a bachelor's degree in computer science from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, California.

Janel Garvin is the CEO of Evans Data Corporation and a Research Director focused on software development trends and adoption patterns among developers. Janel is actively involved with Evans Data's international initiatives and heads up Evans Data studies on multi-core processing and parallel programming, as well as all development tools, application servers, and cloud computing. She also directs private competitive intelligence studies for clients and advises on tactical marketing to developers.

Wilfred Pinfold currently serves Director of Extreme Scale Programs at Intel Corporation, where he is responsible for developing long-range technology research programs in areas relating to extreme parallelism, resilience, and energy efficiency. Originally from Johannesburg, Wilfred trained in Naval Architecture and computational fluid dynamics and moved to United States in 1980.
