TEMPE, AZ--(Marketwire - August 13, 2010) - With only 48 hours to script, cast, create, and edit a film, a team from the University of Advancing Technology (UAT) entered the 48 Hour Film Challenge and came out on top, winning three awards including "Best Overall Technical Elements." Sponsored by the Independent Feature Project, the 48 Hour Film Challenge brought together local filmmakers to showcase their talent through an abbreviated film challenge.
The 3-minute film came with stipulations; it had to include a paintbrush as a prop, be of the comedic or romantic genre, and the actors had to use the line "I'm hungry." Armed with these requisites, contestants were then unleashed for 48 hours to put their creative minds to work.
The University of Advancing Technology formed a team comprised of both students and faculty. Paul DeNigris, a faculty member at UAT served as director of the film. DeNigris worked with UAT alum and current students pursuing a Bachelor of the Arts in Digital Video. The team worked through the majority of the weekend, rehearsing, filming and then stayed up through the night to work on post production effects.
In the end the team was able to submit their romantic comedy production, "Extraordinary Colleagues," on time. The story follows the love trials of a comic book writer as he confuses his comic creations with his own perilous romantic realities.
After an initial showing of the films, accolades were given. The efforts of the UAT team were rewarded as they took home three awards for their film. They were recognized for "Best Overall Technical Elements," "Best Director" and came in 2nd place overall against 33 other teams. UAT will now advance to the Challenge Finals in April where their film will be featured at the 2011 Phoenix Film Festival.
