PHILADELPHIA, PA--(Marketwire - September 2, 2010) - Richard B. Beach has been appointed Sediment Management Practice Leader at MACTEC. Allen Kibler, President of MACTEC Engineering and Consulting, Inc., (www.mactec.com), made the announcement. Beach is based in the company's Philadelphia office.
Beach brings to MACTEC almost 30 years of experience and a diverse background in contaminated sediments, chemical oceanography, marine biology, analytical chemistry, nutrient geochemistry, spill response and hazardous materials.
"Rick's successful technical and sales experience will add significant value to one of our firm's targeted growth areas in industrial, federal and other markets," said MACTEC North Division Manager and Senior Vice President Joseph Sczurko.
Beach has held senior management positions with a number of private sector technical and environmental services companies and has a proven track record of growing practices to support a diverse group of private and public sector clients. Some of these include the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), U.S. Department of Defense (DOD), ports, regulatory agencies and public agencies.
Key projects he has supervised in recent years include:
USACE-Housatonic River PCB project, Pittsfield, MA: Directed over 100 task orders and managed the studies of the 135-mile reach of the river, which included ecological and human health risk assessments, site characterization, stormwater monitoring and developing a 3D model simulation.
Kalamazoo River litigation support, Kalamazoo, MI: Conducted forensic evaluations, identified responsible parties and supported legal action for their inclusion in the PCB remediation of the 85-mile long Kalamazoo River PCB Superfund site.
L.A. Clarke Superfund project, Fredericksburg, VA: Developed a project specific organics laboratory, field analytical group, and remedial technology team to address PAHs on the 40-acre site using bioremedial approaches.
Beach received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the College of Charleston, and a Master of Science degree in chemical oceanography from the University of Rhode Island. A certified scuba diver instructor, Beach is also a member of the Society of Environmental Toxicology & Chemistry (SETAC), Western Dredging Association (WEDA), and Society of American Military Engineers (SAME).
